Annual Birthday Luncheon
Our Annual Birthday Luncheon continues a fine tradition that began in Susan B. Anthony’s lifetime. On the occasion of her birthday, February 15, friends gathered for a celebration to honor the great reformer, hear words of inspiration and updates about “The Cause,” and raise funds to continue the movement.
Today, the Susan B. Anthony House celebrates our hero and keeps her vision alive and relevant for another generation. We honor her courage and vision through programs, special events, tours, and other learning opportunities that share her authentic story and seek to inspire change and foster civic engagement.
2012 Keynote Speaker: Arild Remmereit
Mr. Remmereit was named the 11th music director of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra beginning in its 2011-2012 season. To honor his new city and its international distinction as the longtime home of Susan B. Anthony, Mr. Remmereit is featuring women composers in each concert this year. To celebrate Susan B. Anthony’s 192th birthday, Mr. Remmereit will inspire and enlighten you, with the same passion he brings to his conducting, about talented yet often overlooked women artists who broke new ground just as Susan B. Anthony did.
A native of Norway, Mr. Remmereit’s five directorial debuts around the world in 2005 quickly established his reputation as a major international talent. He is a graduate of the Norwegian Conservatory of Music and studied conducting with Karl Össterreicher, Zubin Mehta, and Leonard Bernstein. Join us for an exciting presentation about “Women of Note” from the singular perspective of the RPO’s exceptional music director.
