Susan B. Anthony House

To Open New Exhibit Created by RIT Students

Rochester, NY—The Susan B. Anthony House opens a new exhibit on Miss Anthony’s legacy—as understood by college students—on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. as part of the House’s year-long commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the famed suffragist’s death.

The exhibit is the creation of Lorrie Frear’s senior graphic-design students at the Rochester Institute of Technology, who were invited to interpret the legacy of Susan B. Anthony as a class project. Eight teams submitted proposals for the display design, from which one was selected for implementation in the small exhibit room at the Visitors’ Center at #19 Madison Street. The seven other proposals will be presented in abbreviated form beginning in late January at other locations, including the Rundel Library and the Susan B. Anthony exhibit window at the Sibley building on Main Street.

The students and their professor will be on hand for the opening January 28, as will one of the subjects the team considered to be a living legacy of Susan B. Anthony’s life and work: the mayor of Seneca Falls, Diana Smith.   Introductions and recognitions will take place promptly at 10 a.m. in the Carriage House behind the Visitors’ Center.
