The film, starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, and Meryl Streep (as Emmeline Pankhurst), follows the early 20th century British suffrage movement.

Our screening will be followed by a talk back panel discussion featuring Jack Garner, film critic, Dr. Jennifer Lloyd, associate professor emerita at the College at Brockport, and Deborah L. Hughes, Anthony Museum president & CEO.

Friends announce fall tour opportunity

Join the Friends of Susan B. Anthony Museum & House for this very special tour opportunity on Wednesday, September 30, 2015! The day begins with a special viewing of Anthony artifacts at the Rochester Museum & Science Center and concludes with a guided tour of the LeRoy Barn Quilt project.

Full Itinerary:
8:45 am – Meet at RMSC; cars may be parked in the lot near Oxford Street
9:00 am – View special Anthony artifacts not available to general public
10:15 am – Board bus & depart for the University of Rochester
10:50 am – View Anthony papers and artifacts from UR collection
12:15 pm – Board bus & depart for LeRoy, NY
1:15 pm – Lunch at D and R Depot Restaurant (chicken or vegetable pot pie)
1:45 pm – Brief history of the Depot by owner Nancy Nickerson / Presentation on turn-of-the-century kitchens by Mary Ellen Sweeney
2:30 pm – Presentation by Lynne Belluscio, LeRoy Town Historian
2:45 pm – Board bus for guided tour of select LeRoy barn quilts
3:45 pm – Depart LeRoy for Rochester
4:30 pm – Return to Rochester Museum & Science Center

Friends of the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House Announce Spring Luncheon Speaker

Jim Memmott, a retired reporter and editor, writes the weekly “Remarkable Rochester” column for the Democrat and Chronicle, focusing on the connections between Rochester’s past and present and on the people who have made significant contributions to the area.

A native of Little Valley, N.Y., and a graduate of Hamilton College and the University of Minnesota, Memmott, 72, taught English for nine years at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., before joining the Times-Union in Rochester in 1980 as a reporter. He went on to be a general assignment reporter, executive city editor and managing editor at the Times-Union and later managing editor and senior editor at the Democrat before retiring in 2007.
 
He teaches journalism at the University of Rochester and lives in Geneseo with his wife, Cindy.
 
Memmott will speak on “Giving Them Their Due: Finding Rochester’s Other Great Women”. The luncheon is scheduled for Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:30am.

“People Who Mattered” Day Tour with Friends May 15, 2012

  Journey with Friends of Susan B. Anthony House to meet “People Who Mattered in Central New York”

Rochester, NY—The Friends of Susan B. Anthony House invite all interested history buffs and adventurers to join us for our exciting day trip to Syracuse, Fayetteville, and Peterboro on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 to meet “People Who Mattered in Central New York.”

We’ll visit the home of Matilda Joslyn Gage in Fayetteville, an activist in abolition, women’s rights, religious freedom, and native American rights. We’ll enjoy lunch while watching a re-enactment of the lives of three former slaves who settled in the Syracuse region. We’ll visit the National Abolition Hall of Fame and learn the history of Gerrit Smith, cousin of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. We’ll learn more underground- railroad history and meet Jerry of the Jerry Rescue. There will be stairs and walking.

Tickets are on sale now at 585-279-7490, ext. 10 or on the Susan B. Anthony House website at susanbanthonyhouse.org. Tickets are $105 per person, includes deluxe motorcoach, lunch, dinner, admissions, everything! We will depart from the Eastview Mall parking lot at 7 a.m. sharp, returning approximately 9 p.m.

            The Friends of the Susan B. Anthony House is an organization founded in 2006 by Betsy Stanton and Jolene Smith to increase awareness of and raise funds for this National Historic Landmark house, Anthony’s home from 1866 to 1906 and the headquarters for the national campaign for woman suffrage.

Mission Statement of Susan B. Anthony Museum & House (adopted 4/2010): The National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House preserves the National Historic Landmark where the great reformer lived for 40 of her most politically active years, collects and exhibits artifacts related to her life and work, and offers programs through its learning center that challenge individuals to make a positive difference in their lives and communities.
